영문 초록

There has been many studies on the mental health problems in the aged especially on the depression but still there is no active study on the mental health problems in the aged in Korea. So, the author applied a depression scale, which was designed by Oh et al, to 100 peoples in two nursing homes for the aged in Busan area. Analysis of this data revealed that this sample showed statically significant higher depression scores than the normal controls (16.53±:6.17). Futher more it was identified that 36% of the sample showed higher than 18 scores. Reading this data, the author concluded that the results were correlated with clinical picture of depression in these samples. Since this study was limited to the aged in the nursing home, it is hard to apply this data to the aged in general. The increasing need for mental health problems in the aged are emphasized.
