국문 초록

김수환 추기경은 윤리란 인간이 인간일 수 있는 존재 방식이며, 윤리의 바탕은 모든 단계의 인간 생명에 대한 존중에 있다고 강조한다. 그는 잘 알려진 것처럼 우리사회의 인권운동과 민주화에 지대한 공헌을 한 인물이었다. 이에 본 연구는 생명존중을 바탕으로 하는 그의 윤리관이 우리사회문제에 대한 통찰과 인권운동에 토대가 되었을 것이라고 예측한다. 그리고 낙태에 대한 그의 관점도 인권수호와 연결되어 있으리라는 가정아래, 낙태 사례를 중심으로 그의 생명존중사상을 고찰한다. 본 연구를 통해 우리는 그의 생명존중사상은 우리사회의 현실을 포괄적으로 읽으면서, 인간의 존엄과 생명존중 그리고 윤리를 존재론적인 관점에서 통합한다는 것을 발견하게 될 것이다. 그의 생명존중사상의 특징은 첫째, 태아를 인간이자 약자로서 바라보고, 약자의 한 사람으로서 태아에 대한 돌봄과 관심을 요청한다. 둘째, 생명존중을 위한 실천적 규범은 자연법에 근거한다. 그는 자연법을 인간이 인갑답게 사는 길로서 제시하고 생명을 선택하는 이유를 설명한다. 셋째, 그에게 인간 존엄에 대한 존중은 인간 생명에 대한 존중 없이 성립될 수 없다. 따라서 낙태문제는 교회의 보수성의 문제라기보다는 윤리의 문제이면서 인권의 문제이다. 마지막으로 인간존중과 이웃사랑은 수레의 양 바퀴와 같으며 이 바퀴를 연결하는 축이자 균형은 바로 인간 생명에 대한 존중에 있다.

영문 초록

Cardinal Kim Sou-Hwan emphasizes that ethics is the way humans can be human beings, and that the basis of ethics lies in respect for human life at all levels. As is well known, he was a person who made a great contribution to the human rights movement and democratization of our society. In this regard, this study predicts that his ethics based on respect for life would have been the basis for insight into our social problems and human rights movements. I presuppose that his perspective on abortion is also related to the protection of human rights, and examine his thought of respect for life, focusing on the case of abortion. Through this study, we will discover that Cardinal Kim Sou-Hwan’s thought of respect for life comprehensively reads the reality of our society and then integrates human dignity, respect for life, and ethics from an ontological point of view. The characteristics of his respect for life are, first, to look at the fetus as a human person and the weak, and to ask for care and attention for the fetus as one of the weak. Second, practical norms for respecting life are based on the natural law. He presents the natural law as the way for humans to live as humans and explains why we choose life. Third, for him, respect for human dignity cannot be established without respect for human life. Therefore, the abortion issue is not a matter of conservatism of the church, but a matter of ethics and human rights. Finally, respect for human beings and love of neighbors are like both wheels of a cart, and the axis and balance that connect these wheels lies in respect for human life.
