국문 초록

본고는 허수경의 시 세계에서 ‘모어’로서의 한국어가 지방화되는 과정을 여성주의적이고 역사적인 측면 모두에서 살펴봄으로써, 그의 시적 언어가 지닌 미학성에 대한 입체적 접근을 시도하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 이는 독일로의 이주와 근동 고고학 전공이라는 시인의 이력에서 비롯되는 시의 독특성에도 불구하고, 지금까지 그의 시에 대한 독해가 주로 고향 의식이나 모성적 여성성 등과 같이 제한적인 관점에서 분석되어왔다는 문제의식에 기반을 둔다. 독일 이주라는 시인에 대한 전기적 사실은 이주 후에 쓰인 그의 시편들, 특히 방언을 활용한 시편들을 모국과 모국어에 대한 그리움과 열망으로 해석되게 하면서 허수경 시가 지닌 특유의 타자성에 대한 해석을 간과한 면이 있다. 그러나 그의 시적 세계가 드러내는 타자성은 기실 독일로 이주하기 전에 쓴 제1시집에서부터 발견되는 것으로, 고향은 주변화되거나 억압받은 타자들에 대한 기억과 역사를 환기하는 공간으로 그려진다. 이는 시인으로 하여금 자신의 고향을 ‘떠나게’ 만든 이유였지만, 그러한 ‘떠남’을 통해 다시금 역사에서 망각된 기억들을 적극적으로 발굴해내는 행위로서의 ‘여성성’을 되찾고 “진주 말”이라 칭해지는 “내 말”을 확보하도록 한다. 허수경은 이주한 공간에서 한국어를 낯설게 경험하게 된 과정을 거쳐 제4시집에 이르러 제1시집에서 형상화되었던 고향의 풍경들을 ‘거울’처럼 다시 마주보며 자기 자신만의 언어로 시를 써낸다. 동일한 내용의 시를 각각 방언과 표준어로 반복해 쓰는 방언시 연작은 표준어로 번역될 수 없는 한국어 내부의 타자성을 적극적으로 포착해내는 하나의 미학적 실험이다. 본고는 이를 ‘한국어의 지방화’라고 명명함으로써 이러한 후기 작업의 의미를 전작들과의 연속성 상에서 해명하고자 했다.

영문 초록

This paper attempts a three-dimensional approach to the aesthetics of Heo Su-gyeong’s poetic language, considering both feminist and historical aspects, to examine the process of provincializing of Korean as a ‘mother language’ in her poetic world. Despite the uniqueness of her poems stemming from the poet’s personal history of moving to Germany and majoring in Near Eastern Archeology, they have been mostly analyzed mainly from limited perspectives, such as hometown consciousness or maternal femininity. The biographical fact that she emigrated to Germany made her poems, especially those using dialect written after her emigration, to be interpreted as desire and longing for her motherland and mother tongue. This have resulted in overlooking the unique sense of otherness in her poetry. However, the otherness found in her poetic world is also captured in the first collection of poems that she had written before moving to Germany. For example, in her poetry, her hometown is represented as a place that evoked the memory and history of the people who are marginalized or oppressed. This made the poet ‘leave’ her hometown, but through such ‘leaving’, she regained her ‘femininity’, which is an act of actively excavating forgotten memories in history, and retained ‘her language’ called ‘Jinju language’. After experiencing the defamiliarization of Korean at the places where she moved to, Heo Su-gyeong writes poems in her own language in the 4th collection of poems while facing the landscapes of her hometown that were embodied in the 1st collection of poems like a ‘mirror’. The series of dialect poems in the collection, in which poems with the same content are written in dialect and standard language respectively, is an aesthetic experiment that actively captures the otherness within the Korean language that can never be translated into a standard language. By naming this ‘provincializing of the Korean language’, this paper aims to clarify the meaning of Heo Su-gyeong’s dialect poems while maintaining the continuity with her early works.
