해방기 박태원과 『중등문범』

국문 초록

이 글은 박태원이 해방기에 편찬했던 국어 독본 『중등문범』의 구성 원리를 밝히고, 해방기 박태원이 어문 교육과 관련하여 지향했던 바를 살펴보았다. 2장에서는 『중등문범』의 텍스트 선정과 배치 양상에 주목하였다. 박태원은 기존의 선례들을 참고하면서도 자신이 새롭게 선별한 글들을 수록하고 있다. 본고는 박태원이 『중등문범』󰡕에 수록한 글들의 출전을 확인함으로써 식민지 조선의 문예부흥기인 1930년대의 문학적 성과를 그가 계승하려 했다는 점을 밝혔다. 특히 이 글은 『중등문범』이 『신시대』에 수록되었던 화문 양식의 글들을 싣고 있다는 점에 주목하였다. 이는 조선어가 억압되었던 아시아태평양전쟁기에 살아남은 조선어를 재발견하고 있는 것이면서, 박태원이 작문과 관련하여 강조했던 ‘그리듯이 쓰는’ 법과 상통하는 것이었다. 또한 여기에는 좋은 문장은 소설가만의 것이 아니라 다양한 주체들의 것이어야 한다는 그의 생각이 반영되어 있다. 3장에서는 대표적인 사례들을 통해 『중등문범』에서 박태원이 원글의 문장을 어떻게 수정하여 수록하고 있는지 그 양상을 살폈다. 『중등문범』에 수록된 소설은, 많은 경우 해방기 박태원이 지니고 있었던 어문 의식과 교육적 목적에 따라 상당 부분 수정되었다. 구체적으로 이는 일본어 혹은 식민지시기를 연상시키는 말들을 최대한 삭제･수정하고, 학생 및 교육과 관련된 계기들을 부각시키는 모습으로 드러난다. 또한 박태원은 1인칭 화자의 시점으로 문장을 변형하고 시, 소설 등의 장르와 상관없이 수록된 글을 수필적 성격으로 변화시킴으로써 독자들이 일상에서 곧바로 적용하여 쓸 수 있는 문장의 형태를 제시했다. 『중등문범』에서 일상은, 주체가 구체적으로 개입하면서 어제와 다른 오늘의 차이를 드러낼 수 있는 무한한 실천의 시공간으로 그려진다. ‘글쓰기’라는 주체의 적극적 실천을 통해서 일상이 다양하게 의미화될 수 있는 가능성을 『중등문범』은 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

This article examines the compositional principles of the Korean Reading Book (Dokbon) Chungdeung Munboem, edited by Park Tae-won during the liberation period. It sheds light on Park’s aims for language education during that time. Chapter 2 focuses on the selection and placement of text in Chungdeung Munboem. Park Tae-won included newly selected articles while referring to existing precedents. This article shows that Park aimed to inherit the literary achievements of 1930s colonial Korea by verifying the sources of the included texts. Notably, this article highlights the inclusion of writings in the style of Hwamoon, which were included in Shinsidae. This aligns with Park’s emphasis on ‘writing like drawing’ and corresponds to his ideas that good sentences should not only belong to novelists but also to various subjects. Additionally, this reflects the rediscovery of the Korean language, which survived during the Asia-Pacific War when Korean language was oppressed. Chapter 3 presents representative examples of how Park revised and included sentences in Chungdeung Munboem. In many cases, Park revised the writings in accordance with his linguistic consciousness and educational purposes during the liberation period. Specifically, Park removed or modified words that reminded people of Japanese or colonial times and highlighted opportunities related to students and education. Furthermore, he transformed sentences from the perspective of a first-person narrator. He changed the genre of the included texts to essays so that readers could immediately apply them in their daily lives. In Chungdeung Munboem, daily life is depicted as an infinite space-time of practicality that reveals the difference between today and yesterday through the active involvement of the subject. Chungdeung Munboem suggests the possibility of various meanings of daily life through the active practice of ‘writing’ as a subject.
