노년기 기부가 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향

노년기 기부 행위는 사회참여 및 사회공헌 활동의 한 형태로, 노인들은 기부를 통해 사회에 공헌하며 본인의 가치와 삶의 의미를 찾고, 소비자로서의 만족뿐 아니라 삶 전반에 대한 만족도 또한 향상시킬 수 있다. 그러나 기부와 삶의 만족도의 관계에 대한 탐색은 지속적으로 이루어져 왔음에도 그 사이의 인과적 구조를 파악하는 시도는 충분치 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 노인을 대상으로 기부와 삶의 만족도의 관계에서 소비생활 만족도의 매개효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2021년 사회조사 자료를 사용하여 65세 이상 노인(N = 5,601)을 대상으로 Coarsened Exact Matching(CEM)을 적용한 경로분석을 실시, 해당 가설을 검증하였다. 그 결과 소비생활 만족도는 기부와 삶의 만족도 간의 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났는데, 기부하는 노인이 그렇지 않은 노인보다 소비생활 만족도가 높고, 소비생활 만족도가 높을수록 삶의 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 친사회적 행동의 긍정적인 영향에 대한 선행연구를 뒷받침하며, 그동안 탐색이 미흡했던 기부와 삶의 만족도 간의 관계를 설명하는 인과적 구조를 경험적으로 검증했다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

Charitable giving in old age is a form of social participation and social contribution activities, and older adults can participate in social activities through charitable giving to find their own values and meaning of life, increasing not only satisfaction as a consumer but also satisfaction as a whole. However, previous studies pointed out that many studies on the relationship between charitable giving and life satisfaction have accumulated, but only a few studies have been conducted on the mechanism between the two in the meantime. Therefore, this study attempted to examine the mediating role of consumption satisfaction on the association between charitable giving and life satisfaction among older adults. To this end, 2021 Social Survey data was used and the hypothesis was verified through the application of Coarsened Exact Matching and path analysis to those aged 65 or older (N = 5,601). As a result, consumption satisfaction was found to mediate the association between charitable giving and life satisfaction; older adults who charitably give had higher consumption satisfaction than those who did not, and the higher the consumption satisfaction, the higher the life satisfaction. The results of this study are meaningful in that they supported the past studies on the positive effects of prosocial behavior and verified the mechanism that explained the association between charitable giving and life satisfaction, which were pointed out as insufficient.
