코로나19 백신 접종 뉴스 보도 형식과 의제 구성

국문 초록

이 연구는 국가기간뉴스통신사인 <연합뉴스>가 글로벌 팬데믹인 코로나19 예방을 위한 백신접종뉴스를 어떤 형식과 내용으로 재구성해 보도하는지 내용분석 했다. 이 연구는 <연합뉴스>가 보도하는 코로나19 백신 접종 관련 뉴스는 다른 신문사, 방송사는 물론 다수의 인터넷 매체에도 광범위하게 영향을 미치기 때문에 논의의 필요성이 크다는 점에 주목해 수행되었다. 분석대상은 2021년 2월 26일부터 6월 30일까지 4개월간 <연합뉴스>가 보도한 ‘백신 접종’에 관한 기사들이다. 분석결과, 코로나19 백신 접종 기사는 주로 해설성 기사로 작성되었으며, 비판적인 논조보다는 중립적 논조가 더 많았다. 관련 정보제시방법이 맥락중심적인 행태를 보였으나 단순히 숫자를 나열적으로 제시하는 숫자정보중심 비중도 높았다. 백신 접종 보도지역은 주로 미국과 유럽이었으나, 감염현황과 같은 부정적인 상황에 대한 보도는 아시아 일부 지역에 편중되었다. 또한 전체적으로 현장에서 직접 취재하기 보다는 받아쓰기와 같은 보도자료 의존도가 높았다. 의제 간에 취재방법에 차이를 보였는데, 백신 정치학의 경우는 직접 취재에 의존해 작성되는 편이었고, 백신 경제학이나 보건역학은 보도자료에 의존하는 편이었다. <연합뉴스>의 보도 의제 가운데 가장 많은 보건역학 의제를 별도로 분석한 결과에서는 백신 접종 추가정책과 백신 접종 시행착오 의제는 부정적 논조로, 백신 접종 부작용과 백신 접종 대상에 대한 의제는 중립적 논조로 보도되었다. 사회적 거리두기와 백신 접종독려 의제는 맥락정보중심으로 보도되었지만, 코로나19 감염자 현황이나 백신 접종상황에 대한 의제는 숫자정보중심으로 구성되는 편이었다. 백신 접종 독려 의제는 직접 취재 비율이 높았으나, 백신 접종 부작용이나 감염자 현황 의제는 보도자료 보도 비율이 높았다. 이러한 결과를 통해 국가기간통신사인 <연합뉴스>가 코로나19 백신 접종 의제를 어떤 형식과 내용으로 재구성해 보도하는지를 헬스 저널리즘 규범 측면에서 논의했다.

영문 초록

This study examined what format and content the national key news agency Yonhap News reconstructed and reported the vaccination news for the prevention of COVID-19, a global pandemic. We conducted an analysis on how Yonhap News reported on the vaccination issue, which is a major national health issue, and what to cover as the main agenda. For research issues, after extracting all articles about ‘vaccination’ reported by for 4 months from the start of vaccination on February 26, 2021 to June 30, two coders were used for articles on even days for quantitatively analysis. The analysis results are presented as follows. Articles on COVID-19 vaccination were mainly written as expository articles, with more neutral than critical ones. Although the method of presenting relevant information showed a context-oriented behavior, the proportion of number information-centered reports that simply presented numbers in a list was also high. Reports on vaccination were mainly in the US and Europe, but reports on negative situations such as infection status were concentrated in some parts of Asia. In addition, the reliance on press releases such as dictation was higher rather than reporting directly on the spot, which we find very severe problem to solve. However, vaccine politics was written based on field coverage, and vaccine economics and health epidemiology were highly dependent on press releases. As a result of a separate analysis of the health epidemiology agenda, which was the most frequently reported in Yonhap News, the additional vaccination policy and the vaccination trial and error agenda were reported with a negative tone, while the side effects of vaccination and the topic of vaccination were reported with a neutral tone. Agendas for social distancing and vaccination were reported based on contextual information, but agendas on the status of COVID-19 infected and vaccinations tended to be based on numerical information. The percentage of field coverage was high on the agenda to encourage vaccination, but the percentage of press release was high on the agenda of side effects of vaccination or the status of infected people. By region, the agenda for encouraging vaccination was mainly emphasized inthe United States, the agenda subject to vaccination in Europe, and the status of the infected person in Asia as the dominant reporting agenda. Based on these results, the public news agency Yonhap News discussed in terms of health journalism norms what format and content to reconstruct and report on the coronavirus vaccination agenda.
