국문 초록

라그후비라(Raghuvīra)의 Kumbhakapaddhati는 하타요가 특유의 호 흡법이라 할 수 있는 꿈브하까 만을 전문적으로 설명하는 문헌이다. 이 문헌에서 설명된 기법은 40여 종류로 태양 관통 꿈브하까, 풀무 꿈브하까 등 널리 알려진 여덟 기법뿐만 아니라 달 관통-꿈브하까, 나디 정화-꿈브하까 등 여타의 문헌에서 발견되지 않는 기법들도 포함 한다. 이 작품을 통해 18-19세기에도 하타요가의 호흡법이 중요시되었 고 또 그 기법 역시 계속해서 발전해 왔다는 것을 알 수 있다. Kumbhakapaddhati라는 미지의 하타요가 필사본이 존재한다는 것 은 1800년대 후반에 알려졌지만, 이 필사본에는 필사 상의 오류와 누락 된 게송이 적지 않았고 따라서 학자들의 관심을 끌지 못했다. 로나블라 요가 연구소의 그하로떼와 데브나트는 새로운 필사본 하나를 추가로 발견하고 2000년에 최초의 교정본과 번역(KPL)을 함께 출판함으로써 이 작품은 빛을 보게 되었다. 하지만 현 교정본에는 다소 의아한 단어나 몇몇 게송의 부자연스러운 배열 그리고 심지어 운율 상의 오류들도 발견된다. 이것은 기본적으로 ‘다소간의 오류를 지닌 단 두 개의 필사 본’에 의존할 수밖에 없었던 물리적 한계에 기인한다. 따라서 새로운 필사본의 발굴 등 더 많은 원천 자료를 확보하지 않는 이상, 현재로서 는 상기 교정본의 난점을 온전하게 해결하기는 어려울 것으로 보인다. 하지만, 운율의 문제에 대해서는 조심스럽게나마 접근할 수 있고 몇 가지 대안을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 그 이유는, 운율을 어길 산스끄리뜨 작가는 존재할 수 없으므로 운율 상의 오류들은 거의 대부분 필사 전승 과정에서 생겨난 것으로 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 물론 운율 구조만으로 ‘오리지널 단어’를 확정할 수 있다는 것은 아니지만 적어도 운율 구조를 통해 오류가 일어난 위치를 추정해볼 수 있고 동시에 운율 구조 내에서 ‘오리지널 단어’의 후보군을 추려낼 수 있을 것이다. 본 고는 289송의 운율을 분석한 후 운율에 어긋난 음절에 대한 ‘운율 적 대체어’를 모색했다.

영문 초록

Kumbhakapaddhati (KP) of Raghuvīra is a unique hathayoga literature specialized in explaining kumbhaka-s, a breathing technique of hathayoga. It can be seen that breathing techniques have been continuously developed through the 40 types of breathing methods described in Kumbhakapaddhati, and that breathing techniques were considered as an important skill even in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the late 1800s, it became known that a manuscript called Kumbhakapaddhati existed, but this manuscript was incomplete and did not received much attention. About 100 years later, in 2000 AD, the first edition of Kumbhakapaddhati was published of the Lonavla Yoga Institute. Although this edition was done with great care, it appears that the errors in both manuscripts have not been completely corrected. Not only are some strange words found, but some phrases are arranged unnaturally and sometimes even rhyming errors occur. This is primarily due to the physical limitations of relying on ‘only 2 manuscripts with errors’. Therefore, it seems that it will be difficult to completely solve the errors unless more source materials are secured, such as discovering new manuscripts. However, in the case of words that do not match the meter, it is judged that some alternatives can be suggested based on the rhyme. The reason i s that there can be no Sanskrit writer who breaks the rhyme, so prosodical errors can be considered to originate from the scriber. Of course, prosody is not a panacea, but by analyzing the structure of the meter, it is possible to find the location where the meter is broken and to suggest alternative syllables within the structure of the meter.
