영문 초록

A literati should make his own chulcheo(出處) clear. Chulcheo(出處) is important. That s because it means his stance on political power. Two sides to literature of literati depend on to choose chul(出) or to choose cheo(處) . A literati is sadaebu(士大夫) ; sa(士) means one who is studying Confucianism, and daebu(大夫) means one who is participating in the political world. In other words, a literati should determine whether or not he started his career as a politician, which is in accordance with the political conditions. Confucianist had been following the teachings of Confucius ; If there is Tao(道) in the dountry, become government official. If, however, there is not Tao(道) in the country, hide your abilities. Confucianists seemingly act up to on this principle. So did literatus in the late of Koryeo Dynasty when many people have experienced confusion and chaos. They were in a dilemma about whether to participate in the political world or not. This arouses inner conflict in confucianist. This script focuses on that inner discord which is key to understand the late of Koryeo Dynasty. The more confused Political conditions are, the more difficult it is for intellectuals to get ahead in the world. So the late of Koryeo Dynasty is like a stage which shows a variety of images such as anguish, conflict, challenge and so on. In the late of Koryeo Dynasty. adopting the penname -eun(隱) was in vogue such as sameun(三隱) saeun(四隱) paleun(八隱) . In according to Confucius, this means there is not Tao(道) in the country. Although many literatus who adopted the penname -eun(隱) should should have retired to hermitage, most of them didn t do. Among saeun(四隱) , only Giljae retired. Rest of them were actively engaged in participating in politics. In this script, I focused on this irony thinking about how to make an interpretation of it and looked into a sense of chulcheo(出處) investigating how to realize it.
