변강프로젝트의 ‘중국 만들기’와 패러독스

국문 초록

역사적으로 중국이라는 단어가 내포하는 의미는 다양하였다. 정치적 개념뿐 아니라 다변하는 지리적 개념, 애매모호한 문화적 개념, 복잡한 민족 개념, 조공체계나 중화제국, 예의지방이나 해양무역을 포함한 개념으로도 설명하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 무엇이 중국이고 어디까지가 중국인가 하는 문제는 논란의 대상이었다. 이에 현대 중국은 변강프로젝트를 실시하여 새롭게 중국 만들기를 시도하였다. 본고에서는 왜 새롭게 중국 만들기를 시도하는지에 대해 변강프로젝트(동북공정, 신강항목, 서남항목, 북강항목, 티베트항목)를 통해 그 의미를 분석하였다. 새롭게 중국을 설정하는 과정과 방법, 중국 전통 만들기 패턴, 자고이래 중국론의 역사적 적용 그리고 자고이래 중국론의 패러독스를 분석하였다. 중국 범주를 아편전쟁 이전의 청대 영역으로 규정하고 이 지역의 모든 역사는 원래부터(자고이래) 중국 역사로 규정하는 새로운 중국 만들기는 역동적인 역사 변화를 왜곡하는 문제점이 있다. 다민족 국가의 대일통을 주장하며 다원성을 강조하고자 하지만 결과적으로 다원성은 상실되고 획일국가주의 역사가 탄생하는 것도 문제이다. 변강프로젝트를 통해 변강안정, 민족단결, 국가통일을 달성하고자 하였지만, 변강지역 민족의 역사적 정체성을 무시하는 몰역사적 이론 적용의 폐해로 분열과 인접국과의 역사 분쟁을 야기하는 점도 성찰할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper intends to consider how to apply the political slogan through the frontier projects. This paper analyzes the methods and the problems of how China is using the various frontier projects in order to make the traditions of the territory that is China. Additionally, this paper analyzes the paradox that defines the Chinese territory with the logic from the everlasting China. The materials used include the thesis of the series that were published as a result of each frontier project, the exhibition of the museum reflecting the results of the frontier projects, and the materials published by the state council and newspaper reports. The creation of a new China had some problems. There is a problem that distorts the dynamic history changes. It seeks to emphasize pluralism by insisting on the unification of a multi-ethnic nation, but as a result, it is also a problem that pluralism is lost and a unified nationalist history is born. Although the frontier projects aimed to achieve frontier stability, national unity, and national reunification, it is also necessary to reflect on the fact that it causes division and historical disputes with neighboring countries due to the adverse effects of applying the unhistorical theory.
