유고슬라비아의 정치체제 전환과 음악 문화의 변화양상

국문 초록

본 논문은 미국을 비롯한 서구 자본주의 국가들의 대표적인 팝 문화(Pop culture)라고 할 수 있는 락(Rock) 음악 문화가 나타난 1960년대 이후 유고슬라비아의 정치·사회·문화적 상황과 더불어, 소비에트 연방의 절대적인 영향권 하에 놓여 있던 여타 동유럽권 국가들에서 찾아보기 힘든 서구의 팝 문화가 어떻게 유고슬라비아 연방에서 나타나고 발전하였는가 하는 점에 대해 천착한다. 특히 1960년대 이후 본격적으로 민중들의 삶 속에 파고들었던 유고슬라비아 팝 음악 문화의 두 가지 측면에 대해 고찰하는데, 첫 번째는 락 음악으로 대표되는 유고슬라비아 팝 음악 문화의 내적 측면에 대해 살핀다. 1945년 제2차 세계대전의 종전 이후 혼란스러웠던 사회환경과 유럽인들이 빠져들었던 정신적인 아노미 속에서, 유고연방의 젊은 세대에게 새롭게 출현한 유고슬라비아 락 그룹들의 음악은 남슬라브 민족의 민속음악적 요소를 절묘하게 가미한, 무언가 새롭기는 하지만 완전히 새롭지 않고 익숙하며 친숙한 음악 문화의 하나로 받아들여졌다는 것이다. 또 다른 측면인 음악의 외적·제도적 특징에서는 티토를 중심으로 한 유고슬라비아 공산당 정권이 자민족에게 서방의 퇴폐적 문화라고 간주되기도 하는 락 음악을 허용했던 원인과 주변 환경, 특히 경제적 측면에서의 전략에 대해서 살핀다. 결과적으로 볼 때, 유고슬라비아 공산당 정권이 서구문화의 유입과 관련하여 취했던 유연한 전략은 유고연방의 해체로까지 이어지게 하는 원인으로 작용했지만, 또 다른 측면에서 유고슬라비아의 해체와 체제의 전환 이후에도 유고연방에 속해 있던 각 공화국들의 국민들을 정서적으로 하나로 통합시키는 긍정적인 역할을 했음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the political, social, and cultural situation of Yugoslavia since the 1960s, when the rock music culture, which is considered a representative pop culture in Western capitalist countries, including the United States. And we consider how Western pop culture emerged and developed in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which is rarely found in other Eastern European countries that were under the absolute influence of the Soviet Union. In particular, we consider two aspects of Yugoslav pop music culture that have been penetrating the lives of the people since the 1960s. First, we look at the inner aspects of Yugoslav pop music culture, which is represented by rock music. In a chaotic social environment and a spiritual anomy that Europeans fell in after the end of World War II in 1945, the newly emerging Yugoslav rock groups’ music was accepted as a new but familiar musical culture, with exquisite folk musical elements of the South Slavic nation. In another aspect of the external and institutional characteristics of the pop music culture examine the causes of the Yugoslav Communist Party regime’s permission of rock music culture, which is also considered a decadent culture of the West, and its strategies in the surrounding environment, especially in terms of economy. As a result, the flexible strategies taken by the Yugoslav Communist Party in relation to the influx of Western culture have contributed to the dissolution of the Yugoslavia and the emotional integration of the peoples after the transition to the political system.
