국문 초록

기존의 음원을 조작하고 편집하던 실험적 시도로부터 영향을 받은 음악 샘플링은 현재에 이르러 대중음악의 주요한 음악 제작 방법 중 하나로 자리 잡았다. 이에 대해 지금까지도 미적, 법적, 윤리적인 논의가 주를 이루고 있다. 본 연구에서는 음악 샘플링을 음악적·기술적인 관점으로 보며 이에 대해 종합적인 음악 제작 방법을 제시하려 했다. 그를 위해 음악 샘플링을 재료, 기법, 내용적 요소로 포괄하여 살펴보았다. 재료적 요소로는 원곡의 재사용 출처, 원곡의 재사용의 기술적인 방법, 차용할 샘플의 길이 유형에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 기법적 요소로는 차용한 음원에 대한 편집 기법, 음악적 특징에 대한 변형 기법, 샘플링 곡의 완성 과정에서 선택할 수 있는 편곡 기법을 알아보았다. 마지막으로 내용적 요소로는 원곡의 장르 변화 여부, 보컬 포함 여부와 관련된 샘플의 기능을 알아보았다. 이렇게 제시된 요소들을 이용하여 디제이 섀도(DJ Shadow) 곡을 분석해봄으로써 그 필요성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 요소들을 체계화하여 음악 샘플링에서의 한 가지 제작 방법을 제안하였으며, 이는 곡 제작의 시작부터 완성까지의 과정을 모두 포괄하였다. 본 연구를 통해서는 음악 샘플링의 전반적인 사항을 이해할 수 있었으며, 동시에 음악 샘플링을 이용한 음악 제작 및 분석을 위한 체계적인 토대를 마련한 데에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

Music sampling has recently become one of the major methods of producing music for popular music. However, aesthetic, legal and ethical controversies still persist over music sampling until now, and research is also mostly about this perspectives. The purpose of this study was to present a comprehensive method of producing music, viewing music sampling from a musical and technological perspective. First of all, this study divided the music sampling with material elements, technique elements and content element. The material elements included the source of reuse from the original song, the method of reuse of the original, and the types of length of the sample to be borrowed. And Technique elements included editing techniques for borrowed sound sources, deformation techniques for musical features, and arrangement techniques that can be selected in the completion of the sampling song production. Finally, this study looked at whether the genre of the original song has changed, the function of the sample related to whether or not the vocal is included as a content element. By analyzing DJ Shadow’s using these elements presented, this study were able to identify the need, and systematize the elements to present the method of production in music sampling. The significance of this study is that we can understand the overall aspects of music sampling, and that we have laid a systematic foundation for music production and analysis using music sampling.
