저소득 독거노인의 삶에 대한 이해와 목회적 돌봄

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 저소득 기독여성 독거노인을 대상으로 질적 연구 방법을 적용하여 그들이 어떠한 삶의 경험을 하는지 그 삶의 본질과 의미를 밝혀내는 데 있다. 또한 이를 기반으로 저소득 기독여성 독거노인의 삶을 올바로 이해하고 그들의 삶의 질을 증진하기 위한 목회적인 돌봄 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구 참여는 65세 이상의 노인으로 1인 단독가구이며 동사무소로부터 저소득층으로 분류되어 있고 세례를 받고 매월 2회 이상 정기적으로 예배에 참석하며 경기도 고양시에 거주하는 여성 독거노인이다. 본 연구는 심층면접을 통하여 참여자들의 경험 자료를 수집하였다. 현상의 본질적인 의미를 파악하기 위해 질적 연구 방법을 통하여 참여자 경험의 주체적 측면을 반성적으로 분석하였으며, 공통적인 속성을 도출해 내는데 초점을 두었다. 분석결과 23개의 주제와 9개의 주제모음 및 4개의 범주를 도출하였다. 4개의 범주는 ‘짐’, ‘하나님 나라’, ‘교회’, ‘성도의 교제’로 드러났다. 본 연구에서 연구 참여자들은 거동을 온전히 하지 못하기 전까지는 자녀에게 짐이 되지 않으려는 주제적인 삶을 능동적으로 선택하였다. 또한 자식에게 짐 되기 싫어하는 여성 독거노인은 교회에서도 목회자나 인도자에게 짐이 되지 않게 하려고 자신의 속마음을 숨기려 하였다. 어떤 참여자는 하나님의 나라를 현실의 도피처로만 보며 현실을 회피하려는 경향도 보였다. 본 연구가, 교회 안에 점점 그 수가 늘어나지만, 여전히 소외된 저소득 독거노인에 대한 목회적 관심을 높이는 데 기여할 수 있기를 바란다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the life experiences of Christian lowincome older women living alone, and define the meaning of their lives by applying qualitative study methods. Its basic aim is to suggest pastoral care as a help for elder women living alone in a church community so that the quality of their lives can be improved and further understood. Participants in this study were elderly women living as one-person households, above the age of 65, classified as a low-income person by the community service centre, had been baptized, attends regular church services at least twice a month, and lives in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. To collect data about the participants’ experiences for this study, in-depth interviews were used. In order to understand the intrinsic meaning of the phenomenon, the subjective aspects of the participants’ experiences were analyzed in a reflective way through qualitative study methods while focusing on deriving common attributes. As a result, the researchers identified 23 themes, clustered into 9 categories, which was further reduced to 4 categories: burden, the kingdom of God, church, and socializing between church members. This study found that participants actively chose to live an independent life at least until they become unable to move entirely, in order to not burden their children. In addition, single older women who did not want to burden their children also tended to hide their feelings at church in order to not burden the pastors or leaders. Moreover some participants tended to see God’s kingdom only as an escape route to evade their reality. This study can contribute on increasing the level of pastoral interest within the church towards the still-marginalized, low-income elderlies living alone as the numbers of such women continue to rise.
