영국 비틀즈 그룹의 탄생과 소멸, 그 음악세계

국문 초록

이 연구는 영국 록그룹 비틀즈에 대해 그 성공과 해체라는 큰 틀에서 살펴보되, 비틀즈 멤버들의 열정과 애환이 깃든 가족적, 인간적, 환경적 요인들이 록그룹 비틀즈의 음악세계에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 분석하고자 했다. 비틀즈는 팀워크를 통한 실전 속에서 록밴드로 ‘브리티시 인베이션’(영국 침공)을 선도하면서 미국 빌보드 차트에 계속해서 선두권에 올랐다. 이 과정에서 ‘팹포’(Fab Four)라는 애칭을 가진 비틀즈 멤버들은 비틀마니아(Beatlemania)를 양산하면서 국제적인 스타로 발돋움하였다. 그러나 비틀즈 멤버들이 성장하기까지에는 1964년 미국에 진출하는 과정에서 매니저 브라이언 엡스타인(Brian Epstein)을 만나고 또 비틀즈를 비틀즈답게 만든 음악 프로듀서인 제5의 비틀즈 조지 마틴(George Martin)이 있었기에 가능할 수 있었다. 그렇다면 1960년대 초중반에 세계적인 록 밴드로서의 위상과 명성을 지닌 비틀즈가 대중음악을 통해 엄청난 인기를 한몸에 받게 되기까지 그들의 음악세계에 영향을 끼친 요인들에 대하여 적요하고자 한다. 첫째, 비틀즈 멤버 4명과 매니저(Brian Epstein) 및 프로듀서(George Martin)의 합작품은 1963년 영국을 넘어 미국 팝 시장을 공격하는 ‘브리티시 인베이션’을 선도하며 음악 세상을 뭉치고 헤쳐나갈 수 있었던 원동력이 되었다는 점에서 비틀즈에게 큰 영향력을 끼쳤다. 둘째, 비틀즈에 영향을 끼친 음악 장르는 어느 한 장르에 머무는 것이 아니라 여러 장르를 협업할 수 있는 콜라보레이션(collaboration)으로 승부를 걸어 마침내 전 세계의 록 음악을 지배할 수 있는 계기가 형성되었다.

영문 초록

The study looked at the British rock group The Beatles in a large frame of success and disintegration, but tried to analyze how the family, human and environmental factors of the Beatles members passion and affection had affected the music world of the rock group. The Beatles continued to lead the U.S. Billboard Chart by leading the British Invasion as a rock band in the real world through teamwork. In the process, Beatles members, nicknamed Fab Four, became international stars when they mass-produced Beatlemania. But it could have been possible until the Beatles grew up because there was a music producer named George Martin who met Brian Epstein in 1964 while entering the U.S. and also made the Beatles look like the Beatles. Then, in the early and mid-1960s, the Beatles, whose status and reputation as a world-class rock band, had an impact on the world of music until they became hugely popular through pop music. First, the four Beatles members’ collaboration with Brian Epstein and George Martin had a huge impact on the Beatles in that they led the British Invasion of attacking the U.S. pop market beyond the U.K. in 1963, becoming the driving force behind them to unite and get through the music world. Second, the music genre that influenced the Beatles did not stay in any one genre, but rather with a collaboration that allowed them to collaborate on different genres, creating an opportunity to finally dominate rock music around the world.
