퇴계의 토지사상과 공간의식의 교육적 함의

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 퇴계가 일생동안 기록한 시와 편지 등 토지관련 문헌을 조사 분석하고, 이를 토대로 퇴계의 토지사상과 공간의식이 무엇인가를 도출하며, 그에 따른 교육적 함의를 제시함으로써 현대인에게 결핍된 인성을 함양하는데 있다. 연구결과 퇴계의 토지사상은 지인합일체사상으로, 공간의식은 천지인합일체사상을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사상을 토대로 퇴계가 귀향후 행한 행동에 대한 교육적 함의를 제시하기 위해 먼저 그 이유를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 퇴계가 벼슬을 그만두고 귀향하려는 이유는 자신의 오사(吾事)를 준비하기 위한 것이었으며 둘째, 퇴계가 주택을 건립하고 자주 이사를 한 이유는 오사를 완성하기 위한 최고의 입지조건을 찾기 위한 것이었다. 셋째, 퇴계가 평생 오사를 추구한 이유는 휼륭한 인재를 양성하여 그들로 하여금 올바른 세상을 만들기 위한 것이었다. 이러한 퇴계의 행동에 대한 교육적 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 퇴계는 인성함양을 자연공간에 의해 터득되는 산물로 봄으로써 인성을 함양하기 위한 교육은 자연공간에서 가능함을 제시하고 있다. 둘째, 퇴계는 최고의 인재를 양성하기 위해서는 인걸지령사상에 따라 수려한 자연공간과 학덕이 높은 선비를 배출한 교육환경의 중요성을 제시하고 있다. 셋째, 퇴계는 최고의 인재를 양성하기 위해서는 최고의 교육환경을 갖추기 위해 교육지도자들의 과감한 혁신이 필요함을 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the land related literatures such as poetry and letters recorded by Toegye during his lifetime, and based on such investigations and analysis it is aimed at reasoning out what is the land thought and space consciousness of Toegye and fostering the human natures of modern people by presenting the educational implications accordingly. The findings support that the land thought of Toegye is related to such idea that the land and human beings are one body while the space consciousness has such idea that the space, land and human beings are one body . Based on these thoughts and to present the educational implications on Toegye s philosophy he conducted after he returned back to his hometown, the first analysis of the reason has reached the following conclusion: First, the reason why Toegye wanted to quit his high class government position and return back to his home town was to prepare his own five principles. Second, Toegye built his house but moved frequently to find the best place to complete the five principles. Third, the reason why Toegye pursued the five principles for the rest of his life was to cultivate talented people to build a right world from them. The educational implications on the philosophy of Toegye are as follows: First, Toegye suggests that an education to cultivate humanity is possible only in natural space and he regarded the cultivation of humanity as a product learned by natural space. Second, in order to foster the best talent, Toegye suggests the beautiful natural space and the importance of the education environment producing high level classical scholars with both learning and virtue according to the thought of a great person is come from the land soul . Third, Toegye also suggests that a drastic innovation of educational leaders is needed to establish the best education environment so as to foster the best talent.
