영문 초록

This study intends to inform positive and negative aspects of korean image presented in France by analyzing korean articles covered by Le Monde for 10 years (1885-1995). As 21th century, the improvement of national brand image is one of the essential elements for national development strategy. It is necessary for us to perceive correctly Korean image observed through the eye of others, Le Monde, the first french journal. It published mainly the articles on three important issues : political and economic democratization, discussion on the unification, during these periods. Consequently, it forms negative image towards Korea rather than positive one. In the political context of those days, it can be regarded as natural conclusion, though we point out some unfair viewpoints. So it is important that we should initiatively lead the change of recognition by offering the correct guidance about Korea.
