영문 초록

This paper aims to survey the changes that the concept of prison in Muhammad al-Bisati’s short story underwent. Like his contemporary politically-oriented writers, al-Bisati frequently picked up the prison and prisoners as subjects in his literary works. His writing about prison, however, achieved a distinguished merit when he skillfully describes the place and building of diverse characters. Moreover, in his short story, he showed that the traditional concept of prison evolved to comprehend a massive open air prison when he represented metaphorically and metonymically a village where the revolution army was stationed and harshly trated the village people.
