국문 초록

중일전쟁 시기 난징은 중국 내 일본군 점령지의 수도이자 일본군의 대 중국 작전 수행의중심 거점이라는 위상을 지니고 있었다. 난징 지역이 일본군에 의해 전쟁 물자의 공급과 식민지적 수탈을 위한 경제 구조로 재편되는 과정에서 대규모 일본인 이주가 진행되었고 그 대열에 대만인․한인이 합류했다. 난징의 한인 규모는 베이징이나 상하이에 비하면 상대적으로 극히 적 은 수였으며 상하이나 북방에서 혹은 장강 연안 도시로부터 이주해 간 경우가 다수를 차지했다. 한인은 다양한 업종에 종사했고 유산층으로는 전당업자, 일본군 위안소 운영자, 군속상인들이 있었다. 이외에도 다수의 일본군 ‘위안부’를 비롯하여 군고용인, 밀매업자, 중양대 유학생 등의 모습이 확인된다. 한인은 일부 유산층을 제외하 고 이동이 빈번한 유동인구에 속하였고 전쟁 말기에는 국민당 통치 지역으로 이탈하는 청년들도 생겨났다. 또한 한인자치단체로 난징조선인친목회(南京朝鮮人親睦會, 후기 鷄林會)는 유산층 엘리트가 주도하였고 한인의 교류․친목과 함께 당시 일본의 전시 정책과 동원에 적극 협력하였다. 중일전쟁 시기 난징 한인의 군상은 당시 일본군 점령지와 그 정치 중심에 머물렀던 식민지 한인의 모습을 보여준다.

영문 초록

Nanjing was the second big city that fell into the hands of the Central China Division of the Japanese Army in the second Sino-Japanese War. This city became a capital city of Japan’s puppet government in southern coastal China, as well as a strategic foothold for Japan’s military campaigns toward inland China. As its economy was reorganized for military mobilization and colonial exploitation of resources, Nanjing embraced a large number of Japanese immigrants (or immigrants from the Japanese empire) and some Koreans and Taiwanese. Korean populations in Nanjing were smaller in number compared to Koreans in Beijing or Shanghai. Most of them joined Nanjing from the North or coastal cities such as Shanghai. Their occupations were various. Occupations of a high propertied class included pawn brokers, managers of Japanese military brothels, merchants affiliated with the Japanese military. We can also locate students of the Central University of Nationalist China (國立中央大學), smugglers, and many hires of the military, such as sexual slaves, or “comfort women.” Most Koreans, except members of the high propertied class, were floating populations, and some moved to inland China under Nationalist rule. In contrast, propertied elites of the Friendly Society of Koreans in Nanjing (南京朝鮮人親睦會, later 鷄林會), while promoting friendship among themselves, collaborated with policies and mobilization projects of Japanese occupiers. This group portrait of Koreans in wartime Nanjing shows the ways colonial Koreans stayed in Japanese-occupied China and its political center.
