국문 초록

김정한의 미발표ㆍ미완성작 자유에의 길 (가칭)은 5ㆍ16군사쿠데타 직후의 자전적 체험을 다룬 소설이다. 김정한은 군사쿠데타 직후 과거의 좌익 경력으로 인해 구속되었으며, 부산대 교수직에서도 파면당한 바 있다. 바로 이 시기를 시간적 배경으로 하고 있다는 점에서 이 소설은 매우 중요한 의의를 지닌다. 왜냐하면 기존의 김정한 소설에서 는 5 ㆍ16군사정권에 대한 묘사를 전혀 찾아볼 수 없기 때문이다. 그의 소설에서는 토지를 매개로 기층민중을 억압하는 일제감정기와 광복기, 그리고 이승만 정권에 대한 비판을 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있다. 반면에 군사정권에 대한 비판은 존재 않았다. ‘근대화’라는 미명 하에 기층민중을 지속적으로 억압하는 현실에 대한 비판이 형상화되었을 뿐, 군사정권에 대한 직접적인 비판은 존재하지 않았던 것이다. 이는 일제와 이승만 정권에 대한 그의 비판적 태도와는 확연히 구분되는 현상이다. 요컨대 자유에의 길은 군사정권 앞에서 발생한 윤리적 전회의 결과로서 내적 균열과 자기 검열이라는 작가의 곤혹스러운 내면을 드러내는 중요한 텍스트라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Jeong-han Kim s unpublished and unfinished works, The road to freedom (tentatively named), is a novel about the autobiographical experience right after the military coup. Jeong-Han Kim was arrested for his left-wing career in the past shortly after the military coup, and he was dismissed as a professor at Pusan National University. This novel has a very important significance in that it is based on the temporal background. Because any description of the 5 ㆍ16 military regime can not be found in the existing Kim Jeong-han s novels. In his novel, criticism of the ruling empire, liberation, and the regime of Syngman Rhee, who oppress the people of lower classes by taking the land, can be easily found. On the other hand, there was no criticism of the military regime. The criticism of the reality of suppressing the people of the people under the name of modernization was embodied only, and there was no direct criticism of the military regime. This is a distinct phenomenon distinct from his novelistic shaping of the Japanese and Rhee regimes. In short, The road to freedom is an important text that reveals the perplexity of the writer s inner crack and self-censorship as a result of the ethical turn in front of the military regime.
