이청준 연작소설의 치유적 읽기(2)

국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 이청준 소설의 문학치료학적 활용 가능성을 모색하려는 시도이다. 문학치료는 언어라는 매체를 통해 치유에 이르는 작업이다. 치료에 참여하는 사람들이 스스로 만들어 낸 ‘형상화된 언어(Gestaltete Sprache)’를 통해 치료는 시작되기 때문이다. 이청준은 이 타락한 시대에 타락한 언어로 과연 진정한 소통이 가능한가를 스스로에게 묻고 있으며, 그 대안적인 언어로 우리의 ‘소리’를 제시하고 있다. 그는 끊임없이 자신에게 질문한다. 왜 글을 쓸 수밖에 없는가? 우리는 어떤 것에 심정적인 동의가 될 때, 보다 더 가까움을 느끼고 신뢰하게 된다. 왜냐하면 어떤 ‘느낌’은 상호작용하는 맥락을 가지기 때문이다. 본 연구자의 경우 이청준의 작품을 읽다 보면 많은 부분 심정적으로 동의가 된다. 예컨대 ‘말이 회복된 세계로의 지향’ 같은 것이 그것이다. 그리고 그의 ‘말(언어)’에서 떨림과 울림을 느낀다. 이 심정적인 동의와 ‘공명의 느낌(Resonanz)’이 이청준 소설로 논문을 쓰게 한 동력이 되었다. 이청준은 한 산문에서 “우리의 삶과 세계를 바라보는 자신의 눈을 언제나 새롭고 자연스럽게 지니는 길이 문학의 길”이라 말하고 있다. “우리의 눈을 편견과 아집에 사로잡히지 않게, 또 이미 드리워진 편견의 장막으로부터 자신의 시선을 보다 넓고 맑고 자유롭게 해방시키려는 노력을 다해야 함”을 말한다. “문학이 삶과 세계를 총체적인 넓이로 바라보고 경험하게 함으로써 모든 사람의 삶을 그 삶 본래의 모습으로 자유롭게 되돌아가 살게 하여야 한다.”는 것이다. 그러한 문학에 있어서 언어가 본질적 조건임은 말할 필요가 없다. 따라서 언어의 본질을 잃어가고 있는 이 시대에 끊임없이 언어에 천착하는 이청준의 소설을 분석하고 그 소설 속에서 치료적 대안을 모색하려는 것은 의미 있는 일이 될 것이다. 이청준의 많은 작품들은 훼손된 말이 순결한 말로 부활하는 길을 찾고 있다. 작가는 남도사람 연작물에 대해, 조직적이고 공리적인 언어질서의 폭력에 대항하면서, 말과 삶의 창조적 자유를 회복해 나가는 문학적 탐험의 과정이라고 말한다. 인간내부의 사상(事像)을 내적 삶의 율동에 실어 노래로써 말을 한다면, 그 노래는 인간의 말 가운데서 가장 아름다운 말 형식이 되지 않겠느냐고 반문하고 있다. 또, 남도소리는 한의 마디를 풀어내는 삶의 한 지혜로운 양식이라고 생각하며, 흥이나 말의 자유, 혹은 우리 삶에 대한 사랑의 한 양식이라고 반복해서 말한다. ‘말’의 회복은 곧 ‘삶’의 회복이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the literary healing value of Lee Cheong-Jun novels. Literary healing is the healing work through the medium of language. This is because people, engaging in healing, begin to be healed by their own formed language Gestaltete Sprache). Lee Cheong-Jun throws a question of in this corrupt age, true communication can be possible only through incorrupt language, and presents our ‘sori’ as an alternative language. He continually asks himself: Why should I write? When we psychologically agree to something, we will feel closer to it, and more trusty. This is because feeling has an interactive context. This author, when reading Lee Cheong-Jun works, psychologically agrees a lot with them. One example is the orientation to the world where words are recovered. And, in his words language), shaking and resonation are felt. This feeling of psychological agreement and resonation powered this author to write a thesis on Lee Cheong-Jun novels. Lee Cheong-Jun says in one of his proses, “The way that renewing and naturally holding the eye of watching our life and the world is the way of literature. This means: “We should protect our eyes from being occupied by prejudice and bigotry, and should endeavor to liberate our eyes from the already established tent of prejudice so as to broaden our horizons freely and clearly. It further means: “Literature should make us comprehensively look at our life and the world and experience them, enabling all people to return to their original life freely and live that life.” In such literature, needless to say, language is the essential condition. Thus, it would be meaningful to analyze Lee Cheong-Jun novels - which continue to delve into language - in this age of losing the linguistic essence, and to explore alternative healing solutions in those novels. Many Lee Cheong-Jun works involve a journey which revive the already damaged words into pure words. The serial work People of Namdo is said by the novelist to resist the violence of organized, utilitarian linguistic order, and to be the literary exploration process for recovering words and creative freedom. If humans’ internal images by the internal life rhythm are sung and spoken, that song would be the most beautiful of human languages, the novelist suggests. Also, the sori of Namdo is considered a life wisdom of releasing the oppressed vengeance psychology, and it is repeatedly mentioned as the freedom of fun and words, or a style of love for our life. The recovery of words is the recovery of life.
