영문 초록

This paper offers a review of how CDAs exist in Korea, including the types of institutions offering CDAs, and design features and delivery common among such accounts. Child Development Accounts (CDAs) are savings or investment accounts opened as early as birth (Sherraden, 1991). The goal of CDAs is to promote saving and asset building for lifelong development. Thus, CDA assets may be used for post secondary education for youth and home ownership and enterprise development in adulthood. In many cases, public and private entities deposit funds into these accounts to supplement savings for the child. We are able to reflect on where the field has been, and imagine some of the challenges, since we have played different roles in the work to introduce and study asset-building policies and programs. The paper concludes with implications of economic education for policymakers and researchers from the perspectives of the Christian worldview.
