영문 초록

This paper suggestes a conceptual tool for analyzing urban planning. It is called the locational schema which refers to a medium between society and space. The locational schema involves the correspondence between the social interests and as its practical means, the spatial arrangement in urban planning. The existing studies about social-spatial relation mainly explain the relation between society and space in terms of cause-effect relation (it means explanatory method), however this study interpreter it in terms of endmeans relation (it means hermeneutic method). Because urban planning is one of socio-spatial behaviour which the social ruling power arrange in order to get capital accumulation and legitimation of controlling the city. To analyze the locational schema, first to select socio-spatial units which are arranged and built through socio-spatial behaviour, for example, center (place), road (direction) and boundary (domain). Next to find out the social motives and the spatial functions, and to interprets the correspondence between the social motives and the spatial functions on the form and location of those socio-spatial units in urban planning. Thirdly to seek out how to accept the traditional and foreign ideas for spatial arrangement through urban planning history. As a case area, this paper chooses Nanjing city in China where had been the capital city about 15 times through her history, and classifies her urban planning history into three periods in terms of social institution, for the examples of the traditional, the early captialist and the socialist period. In conclusion, the socio-spatial relation involves homology with regard to the social causes and the spatial functions on the location of socio-spacial units in urban planning. And about how to accept the traditional and foreign ideas for spatial arrangement, it is more important to accumurate them with the locality than to accept without cultural filterring, so that urban planning becomes more pracitical, creative and legitimated.
