국문 초록

필자는 이 글을 통해 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경의 복원된 헬라어 원문과 함께 신경의 문자적 번역을 제공하고자 한다. 아리우스주의 문제를 다룬 주후 325년의 니케아 신경이 반포된 이후에도, 교회 내에는 여전히 니케아파와 비-니케아파 간에 신학적 논쟁이 지속되었다. 이 때문에 로마 황제 테오도시우스 1세(주후 379-95년 재위)는 이 충돌을 해결하기 위해 다시 한 번 주후 381년에 콘스탄티노플로 교부들을 소집했다. 이 회의를 통해 테오도시우스 1세는 자신의 제국에서 니케아 신앙을 확고히 하고, 이로써 제국을 견고하게 만들기 원했다. 이러한 상황에서 니케아 신앙을 확증한 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경(주후 381년)이 공표되었다. 니케아 신경 경우와 달리, 우리는 니케아-콘스탄티노플신경의 원문을 가지고 있지 않다. 설상가상으로 우리는 고대로부터 이 신경에 대한 극소수의 자료만을 가지고 있다. 이 신경에 대한 최우선 자료는 주후 451년에 소집된 칼케톤 공의회의 회의록에 보존되어 있는 본문이다. 이 외에 우리는 살라미스의 에피파니오스의『정박자』(118.9-13; 주후 373/4년)에 니케아 신경이라는 이름으로 보존된 신경과 P.Oxy. 1784(주후 5세기) 및 P.Lond.Lit. 239(주후 6/7세기)의 두 개의 파피루스 본문들을 가지고 있다. 그러나 뒤에 언급된 세 자료들은 본문 보존의 이차적 성격(에피파니오스)과 본문의 파편성(두 파피루스)으로 인해 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경의 재구성에 있어 제한적 가치만을 지닌다. 그러므로 재구성의 주요 자료는 칼케톤 공의회 회의록에 보존된 본문이 될 것이다. 현대 신경 학자들은 자신들의 저술들에서 이 회의록에 근거한 약간의 차이가 나는 본문들을 제공한다. 그러므로 니케아-콘스탄티노플 신경의 헬라어 본문을 재구성하기 위해, 우선적으로 우리는 현대 신경학자들이 제시한 본문들을 비교해 볼 필요가 있다. 이에 필자는 Kelly(1960; [Kelly]), Schaff(1996; [S]) 및 Pelikan and Hotchkiss(2003; [P-H])를 사용했다. 또한 에피파니오스의 본문([E])도 일부 참조했다. 그리고 헬라어 본문을 직접적으로 연구하는 데 어려움을 느끼는 이들을 위해 이 재구성된 본문의 직역을 제공했다.

영문 초록

In this article I try to reconstruct the Greek text of the Nicene-Constantinople Creed and to provide its literal translation. Even after the first universal council at Nicaea in 325 A.D. and its creed, i.e. the Creed of Nicaea, which dealt with the Arius issue in Christology, theological conflicts still continued between the Nicene party and anti-Nicene party. Once again, the Roman emperor, i.e. Theodosius I(379-395 A.D.) convoked church fathers for resolution of this processing conflict at Constantinople in 381 A.D. However, in this case the motivation of this emperor was different from that of Constantinus I(306-337 A.D.) who had convoked the council of Nicaea for the reconciliation of the church. The former wanted to confirm the Nicene faith in his empire and tried to solidify his empire through the faith. As a result of the council, the Nicene-Constantinople Creed, which confirmed the Nicene faith, was promulgated. Differing from the case of the Creed of Nicaea, we do not have the original text of the Nicene-Constantinople Creed. To make matters worse, we have a few texts of this creed from antiquity. Among them we may mention a text from the meeting records of the Council of Chalcedon(451 A.D.) as its best witness. Besides this, there are a text from Epiphanius of Salamis’ Ancoratus(118.9-13)(373/4 A.D.) containing it in the title of the Creed of Nicaea, but in fact the Nicene-Constantinople Creed, and two papyrus texts, i.e. P.Oxy. 1784(the 5th century A.D.) and P.Lond.Lit. 239(the 6th/7th century A.D.). However, the latter three have limited values for the reconstruction of this creed due to their secondary feature(Epiphanius’ text) and fragmentary situation of text(two papyrus texts). Thus, our main source for reconstruction is a text from the meeting records of the Council of Chalcedon. Modern creed scholars provide their printed texts in the basis of the meeting records, but slightly different ones. Thus, for reconstruction of the Greek text of the Nicene-Constantinople Creed we should primarily compare texts provided by modern creed scholars, and if needed, refer to secondary ones. For this, I compared and evaluated printed texts of Kelly(1960; [Kelly]), Schaff(1996; [S]), and Pelikan and Hotchkiss(2003; [P-H]), consulting Epiphanius??one([E]). Based on the comparison of these sources, I try to provide a reconstructed Greek text of the Nicene-Constantinople Creed. And in order to help those who feel difficult to approach to a Greek text directly I offered its literal translation.
