국문 초록

본 논문은 順菴 安鼎福(1712~1791)의 여성 인식을 고찰함으로써 18세기 여성 인식사를 조망하기 위한 한 시도이다. 순암은 전통적인 陽尊陰卑的 사고와 女性偏性論을 계승하되 자신의 학문 및 사상에 입각하여 여성 규제 담론을 재구성해 내었다. 그는 朱子의 유지를 이어서 『小學』의 짝을 이루는 여성 교훈서 『內範』을 저술하였다. 그는 특별히 자신의 학문 및 사상을 꿰뚫는 下學精神을 기저로 하여 일상의 자질구레한 일에서부터 여성의 몸과 마음을 세세하게 규정함으로써 차별적 성담론을 더욱 강화하였다. 한편, 그는 柔順과 貞烈로써 여성의 삶과 죽음의 敍事를 직조하였다. 그의 행장, 묘지문, 행록후지 등 일반적 여성 관련 글에서는 柔順이라고 하는 보편적인 삶의 원리와 貞烈이라고 하는 죽음의 지극한 경지가 형상화되어 있다. 그는 특히 정렬에 대해 누구보다 열렬히 포양했다. 이것은 人道의 大節을 三網에서 찾고 그 삼강을 扶植하고 勸勵하기 위한 노력의 일환이었다. 이와 같은 여성 인식은 『東史綱目』 등 역사 서술에도 그대로 통관되어 있다. 그에게 여성은 기본적으로 역사로부터 소외된 존재였다. 특히 남성의 독점적 권역인 統治와 관련된 행위에 대해서는 가혹한 史筆의 심판을 내렸다. 이것은 그의 여성 인식과, 義例를 올바르게 하고 褒貶을 통해 후세를 勸戒하는 데 두었던 그의 역사관이 결합되어 나타난 결과였다. 순암의 여성 인식은 그의 학문 및 사상과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 순암은 星湖 학통 중에서 보수적 입장을 대표하는 이른바 星湖 右派 학자였다. 그는 새로운 학문과 사상의 밀물 속에서 위기감을 통감하고 성리학적 질서를 자신의 처지에 맞추어 재구성하려고 노력하였다. 그의 여성 인식에 나타나는 강고한 이념적 규제는 이러한 맥락에서 산생된 것이다. 순암은 18세기 여성 인식사의 보편적인 경향을 追隨하는 데에 그치지 않고 극단적으로 보수화하는 데 앞장선 인물로 평가된다.

영문 초록

This paper makes an attempt to take a view of how to perceive women in the 18th century by means of examining Sunam, Jeong-bok Ahn's(1712-1791) way of apprehending women. While taking over the traditional ways of thinking, i.e., YangJonEumBi(陽尊陰卑) and YeoseongPyeonseong(女性偏性) theory, Sunam presents a new argument for regulating women which reflects his own scholarship and ideology. Among others, NaeBeom(內範) is representative. NaeBeom is written, in line with Juja(Chu-tzu), with a view to composing a series of lessons for women that parallels SoHak. This book is especially based on Sunam's idea of HaHak(下學) which runs through his knowledge and thought. In order for women to practice even in everyday chores, he reorganizes his discussion in a way to prescribe women's body and soul in detail. In the meantime, Sunam weaves the events of women's life and death by virtue of docility and chastity. In his women-related writings such as necrologies, epitaphs, records of words and deeds, etc., configured are docility, which is a universal principle of life, and chastity, which is an utmost state of death. His compositions about heroic women, in particular, persist in the so-called 'the theory of chastity,' the fact of which shows that he, among other contemporaries, lauds the chastity of women in an intensive and positive way. Such a perception of women is surveyed in his description of history, i.e., DongSaGangMok(東史綱目). As far as he is concerned, women are basically isolated from the history. In particular, regarding any political acts, which were thought to belong exclusively to men, women are given a relentless judgment of this historian. This is due to his own historical outlook, in which he sets examples of justice and admonishes future generations through praise and censure, as well as his understanding of women. Sunam's apprehension of women is closely related to his studies and thoughts. He is one of the right wingers of the Seongho school who are representative of conservatism. Having a keen sense of crisis in the high tide of new studies and ideologies in the 1 century, he tries to reconstitute the order of Sung Confucianism so that it can be tailored to his circumstances. The solid ideological regulation shown in his understanding of women can also be appreciated in this same context. His perception of women mirrors the general aspect of understanding women in the 18th century, and, further to this, it can be evaluated as an example of manifesting an extreme conservative standpoint.
