국문 초록

판소리에서 비롯된 <춘향전>은 많은 이본을 파생하면서 고전소설의 대표작으로 자리매김하고 있다. 조선시대뿐만이 아니라 더 나아가 근대전환기시대에도 춘향전의 재창작은 여전히 활발하게 진행되었다. 1910년대는 문학사적으로 볼 때 사회적인 많은 변화와 함께 전대(前代)의 문학적 전통을 공유하고 있었다. 특히 이 시기의 <춘향전>은 거대문학에 걸맞게 수많은 작품들이 새롭게 쓰여졌다. <옥중화>를 비롯하여 <고본춘향전>, <약산동대> 등이 1910년대에 집중적으로 출판된 것이다. 본 논문에서는 <약산동대>를 <춘향전>의 또 다른 연장선상에 놓고, 서사적 측면에서 변모 양상을 살펴보았다. <약산동대>가 <춘향전>에 비해 크게 달라진 부분은 첫째 공간의 이동과 함께 주인공의 이름이다. 둘째 여주인공 '빙옥'은 '춘향'의 성격에 비해 오히려 정절과 순결로 재무장한 경직성이 드러난다. 셋째 <춘향전>은 판소리계열의 작품이기 때문에 삽입가요로 인한 서사의 발랄함이 내재되어 있고, 그 발랄함에서 끝나지 않고 사회비판의식도 함께 연결된다. 하지만 이 작품에서의 삽입가요는 <춘향전>과는 달리 당대 잡가에서 볼 수 있는 유희적 기능을 하게 된다. 이러한 점에 주목하여 두 작품을 비교 분석한 결과, 1) '남원'에서 '평양'으로의 공간적 배경 이동, 2) 여주인공의 육체적 순결과 유교이념의 관계, 3) 삽입가요의 기능 변이와 시대적 추이라는 큰 변이축으로 압축할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 <춘향전>에 내재된 세밀한 이본간의 차이는 배제하고, <춘향전>의 서사적 맥락에서 드러난 보편 원리를 기준 축으로 삼았음을 밝혀둔다.

영문 초록

The from 'Pansori' is regarded as one of the most popular classical novel which generated a number of different editions. The rewriting of was very active not only in Yi-dynasty but also a turning point in the modern age. In the 1910's, in the view of the history of literature, vigorous social changes are incorporated into the Pre-1910's literary tradition. Especially, had newly rewritten and published for many different versions in the period of 1910's. These are , , and . In this study, we focus on the , which is another succession of the and try to find what the differences between them. For , the crucial differences from are largely three points. Firstly, the change of name for a hero/ heroine and the movement of the space. Secondly, comparing 'Chun-hyang', 'Bing-ok' is appeared as a rigid person with fidelity as well as physical purity. Thirdly, is vivid in the narrative due to the nature of the inserted song from 'Pansori'. On top of that, it also implies the criticism of the society. However, the inserted song in is different from in that it delivers the function of amusement in the present age. To sum up, the major transformations in are as follow: (1) The regional background was moved from 'Nam-won' to 'Pyeong-yang'. (2) The relation between a virgin and Confucian ideas of heroine (3) The function of the inserted song with the change of the times With respect to the above results, we exclude the elaborate differences between the copies of different editions and maintain the universality from .
