제주 4.3장편소설의 설화수용양상 연구

국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 제주 4.3장면소설에 반영된 제주 설화양상을 고찰하고 그 의미와 작품의 변별적 특징을 밝히는데 목적을 둔다. 장편소설 한림화의 『한라산의 노을』, 현길언의 『한라산』, 이청준의 『신화를 삼킨 섬』을 연구 대상으로 선정하였다. 이들 소설들은 서사전개에 제주설화를 부분 또는 전체 차용하여 제주와 제주사람들의 특성을 반영하고 주제를 심화하는 효과를 얻고 있다. 현길언은 『한라산』에서, ‘소문으로서의 문학’이 제주사람들의 삶을 지탱해 준 중요한 힘이었음을 이야기 한다, 작가는 ‘토산당신‘을 통하여 한 많은 제주사람들의 모습을, ‘광정당신’의 내력담을 통해 권력에 대한 제주사람들의 저항의식을 보여주고 있다. 이청준의 『신화를 삼킨 섭』은 프롤로그와 에필로그에 ‘아기장수설화’의 내용 전체를 배치하는 액자형 서사구조를 형성하고 있다. 작가는 이 설화를 통해 제주사람들의 의식의 근저에 자리한 영웅탄생의 간절함과 좌절감을 드러내고 있다. 또한 ‘김통정 장군’과 ‘김방경 설화’를 긴 세월 쫓기고 억눌리며 살아 온 제주도 사람들 자신의 소망과 비원의 표현으로 수용한다. 한림화의 『한라산의 노을』은 ‘아기장수설화’, ‘설문데할망설화’, ‘광정당설화’를 서사전개에 참여시킨다. 이들 설화는 강인성과 비범함을 갖춘 작중인물을 창조하기 위해 활용되고 있다. 제주 4.3장편소설에 차용된 제주설화는 제주사람들의 배타의식과 타자의식, 저항의식을 드러내는 유용한 문학 기제로 활용되고 있음을 발견하게 된다.

영문 초록

This paper is to figure out the characteristics of novels based on an incidents on 4.3 in Jeju Island. 『Hanlasanwui Noul』 written by Han Lim-Hwa, 『Hanlasan』 whose writer is Hyeon Gil-Eon, and 『Shinhwarul Samkin Sean』 told by Lee Cheong-Jun were chosen as the texts. Literature, history, how to form reality to literary value, and writers’ mind were studied through the reflection of each author’s different views on the same incident. This paper aims to find out how to approach to the historical facts by utilizing the literary figment, what the narrative is being used for the realistic effect, and what the different aspects of each novel are. These novels show the fact that Jeju Island’s tale is being used as the narrative dialogue partially or on the whole. Hyeon Gil-Eon, a writer of 『Hanlasan』, points out that ‘literature as rumors’ has been taking an important role in holding people’s lives of Jeju Island. The author is recognizing story as not only a simple type of story orally handed down, but also a reality of life representing Jeju people’s real lives facing the historical situation. Thus, the background showing historical meaning such as ‘Tosandangshin’ and ‘Gwangjeongdangsnin’ is being partially inserted to the whole narratives. In 『Shinhwarul Samkin Seom』 written by Lee Cheong-Jun, the framed narrative form is being accepted by ‘Agijangsco Seolhwa’ in prologue and epilogue. This form affected on the story by showing people’s strong desire and frustration on the birth of the hero. Also, ‘Kimtongjeong Janggun’ and ‘Kimbanggyeong Seolhwa’ were being inserted so as to express their hope and ernest prayer strongly implying the pursued and pressured people’s hard feeling. 『Hanlasanwui Nou1』 by Han Lim-Hwa borrowed ‘Agijangsoo Seolhwa’, ‘Seolmundaehalmang Seohwa’ and ‘Gwangjeongdang Seolhwa’, These stories is being used to create the characters with strong mind and remarkableness. These novels have some common interests in recognizing the 4.3 incident in Jeju Island as a paradoxical history and in seeing people’s lives in that island as being otherness. The different points are however shown at the same time. Han Lim-Hwa looks into the process of Jeju people’s resistance and its tragedy. Hyeon Gil-Eon, a novelist of 『Hanlasan』 points out Korea’ political situation right after the 2nd World War and absurdity of militarism. And 『Shinhwarul Samkin Seom』 written by Lee Cheong-Jun shows different aspect from other authors through Jeju people’s sorrow and resentment as well as being otherness.
