8세기 渤海와 靺鞨諸部의 대당교섭에 대한 기초적 검토

국문 초록

발해사는 사료의 부족으로 그 실상을 파악하기가 어렵다. 본고는 발해와 당의 교섭 기사를 비교적 풍부하게 수록하고 있는 『冊府元龜』朝貢ㆍ褒異條 기록에 주목하였다. 그러나 이 기록들에는 오류도 적지 않아, 우선 판본 비교와 내용 분석을 통해 발해와 말갈제부의 역대 사신들의 일람표를 작성하였다. 『冊府元龜』朝貢ㆍ褒異條 기록을 정리한 결과, 발해에 대한 다양한 이칭들, 발해와 말갈제부의 입당 회수, 사신들의 지위 등에서 몇 가지 흥미있는 현상을 발견할 수 있었다. 우선 靺鞨, 東蕃靺鞨, 渤海靺鞨, 渤海 등으로 혼용하던 명칭은 741년을 기점으로 발해로 통일하였다. 이와 함께 拂涅ㆍ越喜ㆍ鐵利 靺鞨 등의 대당교섭도 자취를 감추었다. 이 두 가지 현상은 발해가 말갈제부를 복속하여 대당교섭을 통제한 결과였다. 발해와 말갈제부의 위상 차이는 그 사신들이 당으로부터 제수받은 관직에서도 발견된다. 즉 大將軍ㆍ將軍 같은 고위직은 발해 사신에게만 제수된 반면, 말갈제부의 사신은 그보다 하위직을 제수받았던 것이다.

영문 초록

It is not so easy to comprehend Balhae’s history truly due to lack of materials. This paper gave attention to record on tribute and commending events which was written in Chaekbuwongui(冊府元龜), the historical material which had plenty of facts regarding the relations between Balhae and Tang. However, there have not been a few of mistakes in it. Therefore, I drew up the tables before everything with regard to envoys from Balhae and Malgal tribes to Tang through comparison between two different texts and analyses of contents in them. As the result of reviewing involved record in Chaekbuwongui, a few things could be interestingly found in different names for Balhae, the number of times of Balhae and Malgal tribes’ envoys, and status of dispatched envoys. Most of all, use of the name for Balhae which mixed with Magal(靺鞨), Dongbeon Malgal(東蕃靺鞨), Balhaemalgal(渤海靺鞨), and Balhae(渤海) was united into Balhae since the year of as . In addition, the relations of Bulyeol(th), Wolhui(越喜), and Cheoli(ar) Malgal with Tang were not reported any more. These two phenomena resulted from the fact that Balhae controlled over Malgal tribes’ relations with Tang since it had subordinated them. Namely, high ranked status like an imperator or a general only was given to the envoy of Balhae by Tang, on the other hand, Malgal tribes’ envoy was given lower status than Balhae’s.
