국문 초록

본 논문에서는 18세기 말을 그 시작점으로 하며 19세기를 통틀어 그리고 20세기에도 루마니아 사회의 정 신적인 구심점이 되었던 민족주의적 정신과 그 정신이 언어에 미친 상관관계에 대해서 밝혀보고자 한다. 이에 먼저 루마니아 민족주의의 의미와 경향을 살펴보고 이것이 루마니아의 민족주의적 언어관에 미친 상호적인 관계를 살펴본다. 민족주의의 본질에 대해서 계급과 언어라는 두 가지의 관점에서 접근하여보았다. 계급의 측면에서는 민족 주의가 귀족 계급, 엘리트 계층에 의해서 이끌어진 개념이며 민중은 단지 정치적 대상이었다는 측면과 홉스봄 (E. J. Hobsbawm)의 마르크주의적인 관점에서의 민중 주도적 민족주의라는 두 가지 측면을 동시에 가정하여 루마니아의 민족주의를 고찰하였다. 언어적인 관점에서는 르낭(E. Renan)과 벤야민(W. Benyamin) 그리고 그들의 연구에 뿌리를 두고 있는 앤더슨(B. Anderson)의 언어와 민족주의에 대한 실증적인 연구, 민족주의에 있어서 언어공동체가 가지는 중요성에 관한 주장을 루마니아의 경우와 비교하여 비판적으로 수용하였다. 민족주의에 대해서 이것이 개별 국가별로 다르게 나타나는 정신으로서 하나로 일반화하여 설명할 수 없는 부분이 많다는 사실을 기본적인 전제로 하여 루마니아의 민족주의와 그들의 언어관을 고찰하였다.

영문 초록

This article deals a theme of Romanian nationalism and nationalism of language. In approaching this theme I tried to compare some basic perspectives on nationalism and it's influences on language in general. And then that idea to be applied to the case of Romanian nationalism and Romanian language. Nationalism of Romania could be understood very sophisticate because of it's complicate aspects in it's process of evolution. Firstly the Romania of today was established at the second decades of 20th century. The former Romanian states was divided by 3 Principalities like Transylvania, Wallachia and Moldova. Transylvania was under control of Habsburg Imperial and Wallachia and Moldova were under Ottoman Empire's control. So the former Romanian states could be divided by roughly 2 regions. Humble people of both areas were very much exploited by imperial government which in part, for sure, consisted of their brothers people. The first area in which nationalism idea occurred was Transylvania where Blah noble people's privileges were comparatively small. The Bishop of Greco-Catholic church, Ion Inocenţiu Micu-Clain took the first step. He claimed the rights of the Blah people in Transylvania. His movement for equal rights continued through scholars from Transylvanian School. At that time the noble elites stratum executed a cultural movement of returning to the Roman Culture by abandoning Hungarian, Slavic and Turkish culture dreaming as their ideal model of modern society being that of Western Europe. In this movement the key activity was some kind of Politics of Language. They tried to design their own language as they wanted, which was quite dangerous but succeeded. The scholars of Transylvania, members of Transylvanian School, made this efforts by publishing grammar books, dictionaries, and introducing neologisms mainly from West Europe. They also tried to change their whole orthography system from Cyrillic to Roman. Of course this process made a lot of confusions, but having a very wide approval from intellectuals finally succeeded. Until the end of 18th century Elite Stratum was limited to the noble class, but after returning of noble elites, e.g. Gheorghe Lazăr, Gheorghe Şincai, who studied at West Europe, mainly from Paris there were built some superior education facilities in Romania which contributed for enlarging elite stratum. This extended elite stratum made their language as a Western Romance Language. Nationalism at the end of 18th century which showed a anti-alien tendency and this influenced a lot to a language changes.
