국문 초록

본고는 芝峯 李睟光의 ｢安南國使臣唱和問答錄｣을 통해 지봉의 문답과 창화가 가지는 외교 문학사 및 외교적 의미에 대해 살펴보았다. 외교 관계에 있어 문답과 창화는 단순한 예우가 아니라 실제로는 강력한 경쟁이었으며, 국가의 국제적 위상과 관련된 것이었다. 이수광의 ｢문답록｣은 한 시대를 마감하고 새로운 시대를 여는 시기에 이루어진 것으로 이후 베트남에 대한 이해의 척도가 되었다. 그리고 이후 조선 사신이 외국 사신들과 교류하는데 중요한 지침이 되었다. 지봉이 명에 갔던 당시는 명의 궁궐 화재와 본국의 위기에 따른 상황이 시를 통해 서로의 감정을 확인하고 이를 통해 우호적 감정을 교류할 만한 것이 아니었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 베트남 사신과 시를 주고 받았던 것은 중국을 중심으로 한 문화 인식에서 자기 국가의 문화에 대한 자부심을 보이기 위한 것이며, 상대국의 문화 수준을 시험하기 위한 것이었다. 외교는 전쟁과 같다. 비록 직접적인 외교 관계를 맺은 베트남은 아니었을지라도 중국을 중심으로 둔 외교 관계에서 중국 외 국가의 사신들은 중국에서 만나 상호 국제적 위상을 두고 경쟁을 했던 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper investigates the significance of both diplomatic literary history and diplomatic relationship of Jibong(芝峯) Lee Su-kwang(李睟光)'s exchanging questions and answers and chanting revealed in his The Records of Chanting and Exchanging Questions and Answers with a Vietnamese Envoy(｢安南國使臣唱和問答錄｣) In a diplomatic relationship, exchanging questions and answers and chanting is not a simple exchange of courtesies but actually a forceful way of competition. Furthermore, it is related with the international status of a nation. Lee Su-kwang's Records became a yardstick of understanding Vietnam as it had been created in the period of closing an old era and opening a new one. And, later on, it also became an important guideline for Joseon envoys on how to have ties with foreign diplomats. When Jibong went to Ming, the situation was not suitable for him to have favorable relationship with officials there through poems as there were a court fire there and an internal crisis in his country Joseon. Nevertheless, his exchange of poems with the Vietnamese envoy seems to have been intended to show his pride of his own nation, Joseon's culture, in spite of cultural recognition mostly centered on China, and to test Vietnamese cultural level. In a sense, diplomacy is like war. Even though Joseon did not have a diplomatic tie with then Vietnam, as every diplomatic relationship centered on China in that period, envoys from other foreign countries outside China encountered and competed with each other there for the international status of their countries.
