영문 초록

This study aims to examine the effects of main symbols and how the work is related in W. B. Yeats' love poetry. The love poetry he wrote before he was thirty-five was melancholic and yearning, devoted yet defeatist. He praised the beauty of his beloved, linking her with famous beautiful omen of the past. The dominant symbols his love poetry can be classified as two groups: 'Rose' and 'Birds'. The 'Rose' poems associated with Maud Gonne: in his poems such as "The Rose of the World," "The Rose of Peace," "The Rose of Battle," "To the Rose upon the Rood of Time" and her image 'that blossoms a rose in the deeps of my heart,' with Ireland, with the Rose of Intellectual Beauty, of Spiritual Beauty. Also, the imagery of bird in his poems sybolizes his romanticism and his efforts to overcome frustration caused by his love for Maud Gonne. Ultimately, I contend that the symbols of the rose and birds in Yeats' love poetry inseparable relationships in reference to his themes, and that they contribute to conveying his themes consistently throughout his poems.
