국문 초록

이미 오래 전에 평생학습사회, 고령화사회로 접어든 한국은 그 어느 때보다 평생교육으로서 노인교육이 필요하다. 그러나 현재의 노인교육은 복지위주의 노인교육, 인적자원개발 위주의 노인교육이 대부분으로, 노인을 배움의 주체, 삶의 주체, 즉 평생학습자로 키워내지 못하고 있다. 또한 평생교육의 이론적인 영역을 담당하는 학계 역시 평생교육의 중요한 영역으로서 노인교육, 평생교육의 중요한 대상으로 노인에 대한 인식이 아직 확산되어 있지 못하다. 본 연구자는 더 늦기 전에 평생교육과의 연결 선상에서 노인교육을 다루는 논의나 연구가 활발하게 제기되어야한다고 보고, 이런 시도의 일환으로 이 연구에서는 한국노인교육의 현황을 살펴보고 앞으로 평생교육으로서 노인교육은 어떠한 방향으로 나아가는 것이 바람직한지 알아보려고 하였다. 특히 이를 위해 한국보다 노인교육에 대해 활발한 논의와 연구를 해온 나라들에서 발전된 노인교육담론을 살펴보고 그것으로부터 시사점을 얻으려고 하였다. 구체적으로 이 연구에서는 첫째, 평생교육으로서 노인교육의 의미를 살펴보고, 둘째, 지금까지 한국 노인교육의 현황과 문제점을 알아보고, 셋째, 다른 나라에서 전개된 노인교육의 담론을 살펴보고, 마지막으로, 이들 담론이 한국 노인교육에 주는 시사점과 그것을 토대로 한국 노인교육이 나아가야할 방향을 탐색해보았다.

영문 초록

Korea already enters into the lifelong learning society and the aging society. Given that, elderly education should be regarded as an important form of lifelong education. But in reality, that does not happen yet. In the field, elderly education is not conducted in the context of lifelong education. Also, it does not contribute to educating the elderly as lifelong leaners. Most elderly education given in Korea at this moment is welfare or human resource development oriented. Also, in the academics, not many studies are done to find out where elderly education should be positioned in the big picture of lifelong education, what should be done to make the elderly lifelong learners, and where it should go in the future.
  The author thinks that more serious research should be done to answer the questions and this study is a just start for that. In this study, the author tries to examine the present forms of elderly education in Korea and to analyze its problems from a lifelong learning perspective. Further, the author looks into main discourses on elderly education, which have been developed in western countries. The reason for it is that since western countries have more experiences on elderly education practically and theoretically, they could provide Korean elderly education with some lessons. Lastly, the author attempts to figure out what lessons Korean elderly education learns from western experiences and in which direction Korean elderly education should go to position elderly education in the context of lifelong education and to make the elderly lifelong learners.
